Looking for a smart, well-written, and emotionally volatile book you absolutely won’t be able to put down? Well, look no further.
Michael Robotham’s THE SECRETS SHE KEEPS is one of those blockbuster thrillers that you have to finish reading in one sitting because you desperately need to know what happens next. And even after you turn the last page, you can’t stop thinking about it.
Agatha is a pregnant part-time grocery employee waiting in hope for her absent boyfriend to return her calls. She wiles away time stocking shelves by watching her favorite customer, an effortlessly chic woman whose elegant lifestyle dazzles her. To Agatha, Meghan has it all: two adorable children, a handsome and successful husband, a beautiful house, stylish friends, and a popular parenting blog.
When Agatha realizes they are both due to give birth during the same month, she finally musters up the courage to forge a connection with Meghan. But neither woman tells the truth about herself, and their friendship turns increasingly sinister. Soon the lives of these two women become dangerously entangled until their damaging secrets are shockingly exposed by one irreversible act.
I haven’t enjoyed a thriller this much since Ruth Ware’s IN A DARK, DARK WOOD; Megan Miranda’s ALL THE MISSING GIRLS; or, dare I add, Paula Hawkins’s THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN.
I was hooked from the first page and kept reading because of the fast pacing and increasingly high stakes. But more than just a heart-pounding thriller, THE SECRETS SHE KEEPS is a brilliant rendering of the secrets some women hold close. After all, sometimes the lies we tell ourselves are more dangerous than the lies we tell each other.
I loved this book. My mom loved this book. And if you still need more convincing, Stephen King loved this book: “Two terrific female characters, both with secrets. Add Michael Robotham’s clean prose and whipcrack pacing. The result? A book you won’t be able to put down, although you may occasionally want to hide your eyes.”
