June is one of my favorite months of the year because it means that summer—the best season hands down—is in full effect. And summer brings two things that are essential to a life worth living: the heat (if you’re like me, there is no such thing as too much heat, and if you’re not like me, I really don’t get it. How can you like being cold? What is there to like??) AND all the summer reading that starts pubbing.

I ❤️ a good summer read. I want the kind of book that’s so deliciously brain candy that you can forget (at least until you get an anxiety-causing Google Alert on your phone) that the world is kind of a crazy place right now. Luckily, June does not disappoint. At least when it comes to reading, since there are no guarantees when it comes to this crazy weather we’ve been having in New York City.

Sex and the City and Us
by Jennifer Keishin Armstrong

I can’t believe it’s been twenty years since Sex and the City first aired. The show was at peak popularity when I was in my twenties living in my cramped 4th floor walk-up East Village apartment with two roommates. I used to imagine what life would be like if I was running the streets with Carrie, Charlotte, Samantha, and Miranda. I could have been their African American BFF, except I would have been the one wearing tights in the winter because I don’t care how cool it looked, walking bare legged in Manhattan in the winter is insanity.

Sex and the City and Us gives a behind-the-scenes look at the TV series that revolutionized the way women and their sex lives were portrayed in the media. The book features exclusive new interviews with the cast and writers, including star Sarah Jessica Parker, creator Darren Star, executive producer Michael Patrick King, and author Candace Bushnell (Sex and the City). It only makes sense to crack open this book while drinking a shockingly pink Cosmopolitan.

When Life Gives You Lululemons
by Lauren Weisberger

Before I worked in publishing, I used to work in beauty, and let me tell you the world of fashion and beauty is very different from books. And whenever I start to think that maybe I miss the glamor of the beauty and fashion industry, I put on The Devil Wears Prada. My yearning for the days of free lipstick disappears in a flash. One of my favorite characters in the film is Emily. You know, the British girl who delivers the iconic line that slays me every time: “I’m just one stomach flu away from my goal weight.”

Well, if you loved Emily as much as I did, you can find out what she’s up to now with When Life Gives You Lululemons, Lauren Weisberger’s new book! Emily Charlton has left the world of fashion and has been working as an image consultant in Hollywood. After losing some of her clients, she takes on a new job trying to revive the reputation of a former supermodel in Greenwich, Connecticut. And you know Emily is now a suburban girl. Cannot wait!

Lying in Wait
by Liz Nugent

My name is Sienna Farris and I’m addicted to psychological thrillers. If they are dark, twisted, and involve crazy family members, then even better. I’m a big fan of Irish author Liz Nugent. She wrote a book I can’t stop thinking about called Unraveling Oliver. She has a new book coming out that I am so excited about, called Lying in Wait. People, the first line of the book is:

My husband did not mean to kill Annie Doyle, but the lying tramp deserved it.

If you love the novelist Ruth Ware, love unreliable narrators, and love to keep guessing, you will love this book!
