First lines in books can be tricky. It’s the author’s first chance to draw you into the world that they have created. The introduction can either be long and descriptive, setting the tone of how the story will unravel, or it can be a concise yet effective way to entice the reader to keep reading. A good opening line can stick with you long after you’ve finished the book. Here are some of my favorite first lines in books to kick off the New Year!
